OHhh NO!!!!!

Guess what happened to my mighty aid today!!!
Guess what happened to my beloved camera too!!!
.....
notice the lack of photographs on this journal of mine recently.
Take a wild guess...
and then assume the same for my kitchen aid mixer too.

*SOB*!
Su is doomed! It was a long time since I rolled all over the floor like a kid, screaming a tantrum out of frustration. I did that today. and yes; I am ashamed of myself.
My camera? sigh* zoom error.. can be fixed; not a big worry, other than the fact that I'll be feeling incomplete for a couple of weeks. To Su; taking photographs is routine. Routine as in, brushing her teeth and having juice in the morning. Imagine... no brushing..and no juice... OH how will I survive! :(
You guys are going to miss the many interesting photos I intended to take of my escapades this week! I need to get a spare camera from someone ASAP! I miss the satisfying sound of camera shutters blinking.

Kitchen aid? Well... Su bought this lovely counter top mixer; 6 quart...lift bowl, copper pearl; Carried the hefty 25pound baby back to Malaysia with her; only to discover that : IT CAN'T BE USED OUTSIDE OF THE US! ..... tried different converters, transformers, brought it to an electrical shop which blew up the insides... fixed it again, hunted down kitchen aid suppliers in Malaysia; nothing helped. All it came down to was.. my aid has a requirement for 60 hertz power and Malaysian electricity is 50 hertz. What do I do now?
My brand new baby... the love of my baking life; wahhh... my heart sank in the afternoon as I watched them open up her beautiful metallic frame. They prodded at her delicate insides which were dusty from the explosion of a fuse-thing-a-ma-jig!
Ahhh... I couldn't bare to look. I was almost in tears, my hopes were shattered as they looked at me in disappointment after replacing her burnt interior components.

I am devastated.

I have been speaking to my aid since. Trying to coax it to get better. The man behind the counter reassured me that she was alive; She's just asleep he said. She must be tired.
I need her to wake up!!!
Wake up mighty aid. *tear*

Oh boy, sorry about your bad day :0( Hrmm, about the power 'mismatch' perhaps you can purchase a 'transformer' to see if that works - just go to the electrical store and ask if they have anything that helps with that problem! :0)

im sure u will find a way Su Yin, as the old saying goes 'where there's a will, there is a way'

you should be able to buy a step-up/step-down transformer so that you can use US electricals at home. i nearly bought the kitchenaid in US for my sis but didn't cos too troublesome to get that transformer. but it has been done before so don't despair!!

In US You can just send them back to Kitchen aid office they will replace them with out charge cause they are life time warranty
so try that....

oh no! hang in there Su... i am sure the situation would improve. yes, the voltage is a dadgum at the moment, but think positive. don't let it ruin your days. smiles :)

yikes! i hope your kitchen aid will miraculously come alive!!!!! my mom just bought a 6 quart and gave me a little 4 quart. she's so amazed at how much more (volume-wise) you can make with just 2 extra quarts and more power.

I suggest emailing or calling Kitchen Aid direct in USA & ask them for help on the specific type & brand of transformer you need to buy. Specify to them clearly Malaysia's power voltage. They should be able to re-direct you to the appropriate supplier of transformer & then find out the sole agent for Malaysia who sells the transformer. I think the special type of transformer u need is a very niche market so you may need to do more digging.

KitchenAid appliances are represented in Singapore by Mayer Marketing Pte Ltd. Not sure whether there is one in Malaysia. If Singapore can fix it for u, then yr problem is solved but of course you need to bring it down. Call via phone to Singapore office first as its cheaper than making a call to USA, here is the Mayer Marketing Singapore site & contact details.

The thoughts and prayers of all of us here in England are with you and your precious aid. As an expat that moved somewhere where the electricy didn't meet I advise this - Never give up and Never surrender! There is a solution to this.

good luck!

There is a place in Ipoh, where they sell all sorts of electronic parts and gadgets for Transformers/Adaptors for Voltage and Hertz requirements.

I'm referring to the shops near the Pasir Puteh and Jln Yang Kalsom Traffic lights junction. If you decide to go, do take down your baby's power specifications. I'm sure they would be able to help you.

Hi Su...Have you tried getting a sparky to change your power point at home? I have a 15amp power oven at the shop but I only have a 10amp power point but then I got a sparky to change the powerpoint instead of changing the oven. It works fine now because they've changed the power point. It's simple electirical wiring but it can be done in Australia so maybe it can be done in M'sia too? hope this helps...

Oh thank God for this post. I was thinking to get a friend to buy one from the US for me. I guess I better not.

Hi Su, you just need a step down transformer from 220V to 110V. Make sure you buy a transformer power that match your kitchenAid too. I have one at home which i bought from US, mine is 5Quart and need 300W. I bought a 300W step down transformer at electrical shop and has been using it for 6 years. If you cant find it at Ipoh, you can find at Penang Thye Huat.

Hi Su,
This is Jo from Wilton Msia. I am using a KA 6 qt brought all the way from the US with a converter with no problem at all so far. I think in your case, it is just a matter of getting the right converter. I bought mine from an electrical store at Paramount. Drop me an e-mail if you need further help. Btw, you have met Rosalind, my boss. I am her training manager taking care of all her training classes in Msia.
