Japanese girls love their Hello Kitty.
I remember walking around the streets of Osaka and Tokyo; haunted by Hello Kitty and her merchandise. They were EVERYWHERE! I admit...it is rather cute..and... adorable i suppose...*blush*
I'm not the biggest fan; but i'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun making this cake *giggle* It's pink and pretty! COme on! How could I resist!
It was Sayaka's birthday last weekend. Despite having 2 cakes due that week; I couldn't help but squeeze one more in for my lovely Japanese girlfriend! I only had a couple of hours..but I pulled out the best I could. I would consider it a success as she was overjoyed and I had the party guests OooO-ing and Ahh-ing in full Japanese force! *laughs* It's fascinating to watch Japanese people get excited! *giggle*The body of the kitty was Cake; the head was made with a Styrofoam core covered with fondant.
The tiny flower bits were molded from fondant. The most frustrating bit was actually smoothing out the surface of the head. Making my round Styrofoam ball oval was almost impossible! Lucky for me; I had someone else to help me bake the cake while I stressed over the frosting! Thanks Jo :). He made a white chocolate mud cake with swirls of pink; under my strict supervision of course *hehe* It turned out delicious! There was a marbled pink and beige effect with every slice of cake!
