My cookie cutters are used for my sugar crafting, chocolate molding, design templates and all sorts of handy craft...so it's definitely money well spent. *wink* From a single cookie cutter...I make a endless different designs as well, I love being creative with my cutters...they make cookie-baking alot more interesting. Icing the cookies would probably be my favourite thing to do! I usually just grab a tub of premade frosting from the supermarket, colour it and pipe away! ..saves me the trouble of needing to whip up royal icing just for a couple of tiny cookies... $2.95 is worth my unnecessary hour of whipping egg whites with icing sugar. :P
Here's a gingerbread cookies recipe...and a TON of cookie cutter + frosting ideas....**Xmas is coming up soon; wrap them in tiny cellophane packets and some pretty ribbon, I bet the kiddies would love them!
400g plain flour (extra 50g of flour for dusting and handling)
1 tsp bicarb of soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground allspice
100g light brown sugar
4 tbsp maple syrup
1 egg
70g butter (melted)
Add dry ingredients into a large bowl. Make a well in the center and pour in all other ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon till it resembles a soft dough. Clump dough together with fingers and knead on a lightly floured surface till well combined. Clingwrap and leave in the refrigerator for at least 30-40 minutes. (You can freeze dough and use it another time at this point)-thaw before kneading and molding cookies.1 tsp bicarb of soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground allspice

4 tbsp maple syrup

Knead lightly till workable and Roll out the dough to 1/2 cm thickness. Cut shapes with cookie cutters. Place on lined baking trays and bake in preheated 190 degre oven for 8-9 minutes. Cool on a wire rack and move on the the fun part. ICing the cookies! If you dont have piping bags at home...snip the end of a ziplock bag and fill with icing! Works like a charm. Sparkles are always good to have on cookies :)
Remember to place your cooling rack in a safe spot...*sniff* a couple of my cookies were sacrificed due to my carelessness.

I also like to collect cookies cutter. They are so cute. My fav. shop here in Perth is Kitchen warehouse.The have all shapes and sizes of gingerbread man. Cook for xmas baking. My anak2 love to eat them but only after I iced the cookies. Yummy.....

Thanks everyone! haha looks like everyone got a couple more cute ideas the next time they bake cookies!...I havent been blogging much, but I've been storing cookie dough in the freezer to bake "cute" creatures everytime I get bored with the books :)

khairulb: Awww *blush* thanks...haha you wouldnt wish for a housemate like me if you didn't have a gym 2 mins from home LOL...it can get a little too "comfy" sometimes..haha Hmm..I havnt been buying much baking stuff from Malaysia, as I've only began baking "big-time" in Sydney..but I would assume speciality cake stores with baking tools and equipment should have huge stocks of differnt cutters. Try the yellow pages :)...or a baker friend LOL. I'll be back in December..so I might take some orders then *wink* hehe
flower: hmmm i think we have a kitchen warehouse here too...I love baking stores in AUstralia...they have EVERYTHING! i cant imagine myself in the US in a wilton store ...or a baking tool shop..I would probably swipe my credit card clean >.< haha..dangerous...
joey: Hmm....Most $2 shops would have cellophane wrappers...or premade pretty ziplock packs for sale..but if you cant find any there...try the art and craft stores. THey usually have many colourful variations of cellophane paper. Its not difficult to cut a large piece; cookie in the center...gather the edges up high, pretty ribbon around the top..should look awesome too :)
