Defining moments in every instance

4 tiers of delicious madness!
It gets tougher by the hour.Who would have imagined. My first wedding cake; of the month of March, on the 1st of March... is a full fledge 4 tier ALL cake white ginormous piece.
I've done cakes before; but I have to admit; this was the first time (out of pastry school) that I had something as big as this all to myself. It was as heavy as a person! I had to bake several days to finally finish all the tiers.
The bottom was 20 inches.
My workbench in my office is only 16 inches in width. How did i pull this off?
Honestly; I surprised myself! Haha; it's definitely made me lots more confident in terms of tackling more 'wedding' challenges ahead of me.The cake turned out pretty and I like what I had done with it. Sure; there could be a right angle here and there which I could have fixed; but dude....cut me some slack, its ALL REAL cake. No firm squared corner styrofoam business in this tall magnificent stack.
I am used to doing more of those; bottom foam - top cake ones which generally weigh less and are more 'fix-able' if you know what I mean. I'm the type to fuss of small little inconsistencies; so you can imagine how much this cake was killing me on the painful journey to it's completion! *laughs*Everyone at the venue had their heads turned in "WAahhss" as we entered steadily with cake in hand. We manuevered it gently onto the table and there it was; a beautiful cake amongst flowers and elegant fabric trimmings. It was probably my defining moment. I stepped back and took a good look at it again; yes. I was happy.
Defining moments?
I'm speaking about the 'moments' that make or break. The feelings, the actions or even sometimes just thoughts.
They are my favourite moments to watch! So much drama. All compacted into mere seconds which leave minds in scrambles and excitement. It's all about that thrill when you sense that overwhelming emotion!
My memory of most things are of these moments. Funny how some of us have too much going on to appreciate them.

Do share your moments of glory with me.
I'm sure everyone in their separate professions or passions have them.
I find them incredibly inspiring. The expression of pure satisfaction and pride in ones work/doing cannot be faked with a smile. It comes naturally as a generous glow from within.

Here are some of my personal favourites...
  • Watching a child devour a chocolate cupcake of mine with an innocent grin.
  • Having someone come up to me with a "Hello Su; I know you from your blog! Nice work"
  • Placing that last piece on a puzzle.
  • Topping my well 'built' lasagne with quality freshly grated mozarella
  • Pouring hot fudge over a scoop of icecream
.... shall stop here...I could go on forever! >.<

Beautiful work. Could you 'sign' your picture so I can download it to my computer to save? Thanks. (I want to add it to 'ideas' for my daughter's wedding. I love the lacy white on white, and would like to show it to the cake designer here)

moments of glory..
when i went on a building site, and i had the painter to add a blue tint into his green paint because it was too yellow-green(sunny green it was called) ..
and voila..!! when he brushed it on an external wall.. the absolute perfect green i had in mind.. =O)

So what was the trick to covering a 20inch? Did you stack on site? I just recently did one with a 14inch base and that was difficult enough to cover and I had to stack on site I could barely carry the 14inch alone. Well done!
