Its finally done...

its over... but its daunting.
I have just returned from my last day at University. I wont ever need to walk to lectures anymore... there will be no more tutorials or horrid exams. No one's going to hassle me for datelines on assignments. I'm scared....
What is going to become of Su now that she is about to graduate...

I should really switch my profile write-up 'info' thingie~huh?
It has been there for almost 2 years now.
My title tag: The Journal of a Girl who loves to Cook would probably be more appropriately named The Journal of a "Young Lady" who loves to Party with Cake. *laughs*
So much has changed in the last 4 years for me here in Australia. Good thing this blog of mine came about. I can now retrace those steps to rediscover what I've been up to the past couple of years. It is indeed more than just documenting my experiences in the kitchen; it also is about my friends...University experiences, old crappy jobs and rants mostly about the weather... hehe. Here's a picture I took while getting distracted from exam study. The view of the city from the 6th floor of our library sure is breathtaking. I wonder what it's like from highest floor. *hmm* might check that out another time...

I spent almost the entire day in my library cubical yesterday trying to cram in 4 pages of colourful notes filled with anagrams and little drawings. I'm 22, but I learn like a 3 year old. :P If not for the colours; I probably would have fallen asleep within the first hour. Associating "price" with rice..and "product" with duck might sound a little ridiculous....but *shrug* it's what works for me. On the back of my MnM's pack is says; Chocolate tastes better in Colour... As a connoisseur of all things sugary + sweet.. I'd have to disagree; but at least they sure are damn pretty to look at!On the topic of colour; I've actually made a very fun batch of colourful "face" cupcakes this weekend.
They were meant as a birthday surprise for Darren who was turning 42. His extremely sweet and soft spoken partner had listed a fun montage of items for me to make cupcakes into and was planning to arrange them on a cupcake display on his birthday. They were both dog lovers and she had supplied me the colour scheme of both their puppies. The thing about cupcakes are that their surfaces are round...and it sometimes is just quite hard to create a more accurate likeliness to the actual person/dog. We all know not everyone's face is perfectly ROUND...*laughs* I try cartooning mos of the features to create similar representations where I can.
She was pretty happy with them...I personally loved the blue and yellow colour combo's on the words. I really hope he doesn't think they look too childish. I painted them on with gel food colouring. It took ages to get the strokes as smooth as I could; but the humidity just wasn't helping. It still worked out fine though... there weren't any cases of green letters(which I was initially worried about).

Congratulations! Wonderful feeling; so sad you're going back home as I will be leaving Asia about the same time and now I'll be lucky if I ever meet you! Your beautiful photos and fantastic recipes have been a source of inspiration for me for the last eighteen months; I wish you all the best and hope this blog doesn't take a backseat now you're out in the 'real world'!

Hey there,

No I certainly did not think they were childish. They were great, a very nice surprise.

It was a shame to eat them, but they tasted great too!

Darren (the birthday boy)!!

Hey Su yin,

The cupcakes you made for Darren were VERY well received! It brought a great big smile to his face.

It's a shame you are moving back to Malaysia as I'd love to order more for all my friend's birthdays!

Many thanks,

Amy

Congratulations! I've been reading your blog since I found out about it quite sometime ago, and it never fail to amaze me to see the things that come out of your (claimed) tiny oven!

Are you coming back to Malaysia? Will definitely keep you in mind if I need to order a cake once you're back.

Your passion, talent and ideas seem limitless...Love your creations esp the face cupcakes. Thank you for sharing...from another passionate malaysian :)

God has truly gifted you with a very 'special talent'. As the first poster said, hopefully and prayerfully you're making "good" money from your ideas? If money doesn't matter that much to you, then you've truly found your 'passion' in life. God bless.
