Mini Cooper ...erm..is that a cake??

My eyes are coming out of their sockets...I'm rushing to start off an important assignment for Uni due in a couple of days and I havn't slept enough for days! I'll just have to slot in a couple of pictures and run. Sorry guys.. "story-telling" will have to be left for tomorrow. This was a cake done for a 22 year old girl who loves mini Cooper's. I found out a couple things about her a week ago and incorporated them into the whole design. E.g bag...Favorite key chain, colour...etc. A cooper on its own would look extremely bland and uninteresting; and I bet frequent readers would know my personal style is faaaaarrr from that! *laughs* Mini coopers remind me of all things retro....I don't know why...It could just be the shape or just the curves, I'm not certain. I patched up the rear with hints of retro just to punch up the luster-dusted car "paint" job with a little bit of design. I hope she likes it; *cross fingers* It's for a birthday surprise tonight.

That mini cooper is just too cute!

I'm thinking of trying my hand at modelling fondant. I dont suppose you buy all the colours you use but mix around the 3 basic colours yah?

Just a quick question, would you recommend using fondant or gumpaste to shape little details? thanks!

cherlynn: THanks :) I definitely will! Im intending to get even better at it :)

Panda: hmmm..it really depends on what type of frosting youre making; its hard to give u tips on the frosting without the recipe or trying it on my own. I suggest a tub of ready made bettycrocker frosting! haha...It's my lazy alternative. It's good in hot and humid weather too

thecoffeesnob: Nah..i mix my own colours..but red and black fondant is difficult to make on your own at home...to get a bright red i use storebougth fondant. For details I suggest sugarpaste..or gumpaste(if you work with fast fingers) Fondant is a little more sticky and better for covering cakes. Try searching for modelling paste...or just asking for assistance on brands and workability from the sweetstore shopkeeper :)

brilynn: hmmm...good question...i'm stuck..hahaha i cant answer that question >,< haha thanks for the compliment *blush*, i guess i have a flair for design *shrug* I love colours and artistic creations.

helen: haha it was made as an order for the girls birthday...I havnt asked if she liked it yet! Haha I hope she was impressed. I havn't heard news.

quavadis: Thanks :) hahaha...it should be eaten before it gets bad...The little sgar bits can be kept forever though...most of them last quite a while if handled with care.

nadia: thanks nadia...so nice to hear from u :)

esther: thanks! Hehe..im trying to improve as I make more...Im glad I am...*does a victory dance around the room* Haha!
