""It's ABSTRACT!...'modern' art~ I tell you!""

I had to say to myself all afternoon while I was making this one!
It didn't exactly turn out the way I had pictured it in my head. I guess I don't have a good eye for all things messy and beautifully disorientated.I went pass the baking aisle at the supermarket and found these on sale. I thought to myself; OH FUN!~ premade squeezy-tube-icing! Lets take you home and see what we can concoct!
As we drove home; I ran all creative ideas and possibilities through my "let's make THIS; checklist" .... and..finally I thought of the perfect opportunity.
Gel icing+ Cheesecake topping! I randomly made up a swirly design in my head; and I was on my way!
I'm not sure what everyone thinks of this easy new found technique of mine *raises and eyebrow*; but here's what I personally feel:
It's easy! ...fast....cheap way to create impressive frosting on a cheesecake...its fun to do; and it looks 'cool' if not pretty. *shrug*
Some might find the colour combo a little too 'out-there'; but I was making this little cake to bring to a birthday house pot-luck party last night.....the birthday boy's favourite colours were blue and red. The pack of 4 (black, white, blue, red) gel colours seemed to match the theme perfectly too.
I'm predicting mixed opinions on this post...*laughs* my housemates thought it was pretty, and Jo commented that it didn't look like something "Su" would make; but it looks nice anyway. I'm not certain what to think...
For those who would like to have a go at making one on their own...
Here's my step by step guide.
Good luck! :)

First make a yummy orange cheesecake!!

250 g digestive biscuits
125 g butter, melted
375 g cream cheese, softened
rind of 1 orange
1/4 cup thick concentrated pulpy orange juice
dilute 2 tsps gelatine into juice

1 x 400 g tin condensed milk

Process biscuits until finely crushed. Add butter and mix well.
Press half of the biscuit mixture into the base of a greased and lined 20 cm springform tin.
Use a glass or spoon to push the remainder of the mixture around the sides of the tin.
Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
Beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
Add rind and beat well.
Gradually add the condensed milk and orange juice, and continue to beat until smooth.
Pour into the prepared tin.
Refrigerate till set...
and begin frosting with gel based icing tubes.

I should have made a video huh? *sigh* i wish I had 3 arms...*laughs* I might buy myself a camera tripod one day.

Cooool. Seizure Cheesecake.

Those squeezy tubes are fun if you pipe them on and then run a skewer through to make streaky lines.

I've been a fans of your blog for some time, but this is the first time i'm leaving a comment here. Your work are all marvelous! and this cake reminds me of Henna art.

Btw, do you know where possibly i can get gel icing tubes in Malaysia?

Hey Su,
Forget tripods, most are too expensive - use a small painter's easel - available in most craft shops. My camera stands up well on it - but then I don't have a really big heavy video camera =) good luck. And great cheezecake. Try mascarpone some time.

graeme: I LOVE youR PHOTOGRAPHS!@!! OMG you have excellent photography skills! Such wonderful creative presentations...nice work graeme..I read your blog occasionally...it's just too enticing :P

the-inner-thoughts: Henna? Yea...I love henna too! I live with Indian girls..and they thought this cake was pretty...probably because it reminded them of Henna too! :P

chengz: Aww thanks sweetie :) try it out! nothing complicated :P

dexx: Hmm..thats a Great suggestion dexx....is the easel wide enough though? My camera might topple over as it as a really wide base. Not exactly one of those slim versions. Might give the art store a visit though. THanks for that :)

The cooking ninja: Thanks ninja; its always nice to hear from u ;) I might try the streaks graeme mentioned these could do too~

Thanks for that Moohan..I must really edit this recipe then..it seems like its not working for many people. But the gelatine will definitely help harden the cheese. I bet warm weathers will be killers for these too.
thanks again! :) I need help from feedback sometimes.. LOL
