A Geek-ful cake~

Sculpting this cake truly brought back many fond memories of days when sis and I had Nintendo consoles permanently attached to our palms. *sigh* Mario has come a long long way....from his highly pixelated form to the 3D Super Mario version we have today. Yoshi dinasaurs bursting out of polka dot shells, adorable mushrooms, evil goompa's and venus fly traps still make my heart skip a beat. Super Mario is pretty addictive if you like intense jumping and leaping games. Though I have not laid hands on a console in a long time, this cake almost makes me want to latch on to the newest version of Super Mario. Princess Peach needs some rescue-ing ;) *grin*

Amanda's housemate; Jon, is an avid fan of consoles..and Mario I pressume...
Amanda recalled him browsing a gamer website where he mentioned spotting a "Super Mario wedding cake" someone had posted on the forums. He then noted; " I bet your friend Su Yin could do better than that!"
Well Jon...*blush*...I don't know about "better"; but I'll sure as hell try! *laughs*

She made a order for his birthday cake 2 weeks ago and I have been brainstorming since. *So much PressuRE!* *laughs*
It always starts off with a sketch; which I was pretty happy with ... and began working on it 3 days ago. It does take many hours to painfully sculpt every little detail but the outcome usually is rewarding when more effort is put in. I really wanted Jon to be surprised and Amanda to be happy with paying for what I was worth. *sigh*..stress..haha; I'm Happy with it, I think it's quite cool...but that's just me!

Haha..thanks so much guys...I gues i did do a good jo after all...everyone is so kind with compliments *blush*..I'll be working hard to top this cake next ;)
I'm oing to try to answer as many questions as I can here...
1. Yes the bursting Mario is edible...and the arm and head is supported with dowels and skewers..I used a styrofoam core for the head as it was toobig to be made of sugar... the golden box is sugar too
2. what icing was it? It is fondant...:) SUGAR+WATER+CORNSYRUP+glycerin.
3. Took me about 3 days to make...
4. Taste? I dont know :( didn't get to eat it! haha..it wasnt my birthdy

5. I love you all too ;) *giggle*
